Forgemasters finally gets a Regional Growth Fund loan, but less than half what it was due to get from Labour
Nick Clegg recently announced the winners in the second round of the Regional Growth Fund - a £950m pot of money to be dished out to businesses to create jobs. The one that predictably grabbed the headlines was a £36m loan to Sheffield firm Forgemasters.
Nick Clegg has seen his reputation in Sheffield shattered after one of the first acts of his government was to cancel an £80m loan to the company. Whether delivering the loan 18 months late with £44 million of it missing does anything to repair the damage remains to be seen.
