Police Cuts Hit Sheffield

Sheffield Labour Group have highlighted concerns raised by South Yorkshire Police officers earlier this month, over the impact of Government cuts to policing.

A survey by the National Police Federation indicated that 93% of local police officers believe that the service they provide will suffer as a result of the cuts. The report also highlighted that 98.4% believe that morale has fallen.

Labour are highlighting concerns over the impact of police cuts and the broken promises of the Liberal Democrats, who promised additional police officers for South Yorkshire ahead of the 2010 election.

“It’s extraordinary that despite these warnings the Government continue to go ahead with this reckless level of cuts, especially when the Liberal Democrats were telling us not so long ago that they would be putting extra police on the streets of South Yorkshire.” Cllr Harry Harpham, Sheffield Labour Community Safety Spokesperson.
