Working hard for you
Sheffield Lib Dems ran a Council under a Labour Government doing its best to protect and expand local services. Labour now run the Council under a Tory/Lib Dem Government that is cutting back more than Thatcher could have dreamed of.
It's all too much for local Lib Dems
It’s only November – and already half of the Lib Dems up for re-election next May have thrown in the towel.
Our current headcount estimates that 8 Liberal Democrats are planning to call it a day – including a number of prominent names. See below if your local Lib Dem has found the exit.
Graves Park: Peter Moore – at 21 years service one of the longest serving Lib Dems on the Council and a previous Lib Dem leader.
Stannington: Former Mayor Arthur Dunworth will not be defending the front line seat of Stannington – held by the Lib Dems by just 5 votes last May.
Ecclesall: Sylvia Dunkley the present mayor of Sheffield, has been the councillor for the area for 17 years. Proud of achievements in that time across the Region under a Labour Government, retirement will give time to watch them dismantled by a Tory Lib Dem government.
Nether Edge: Ali Qadar – councillor for 16 years and a parliamentary candidate in Sheffield. Does not rule out standing again in the local elections in the future. Presumably not for a Lib Dem Party that are Tories in disguise.
In addition we understand that the following have joined the exodus:
Fulwood: John Knight
Beauchief & Greenhill: Louise McCann
West Ecclesfield: Kath Chadwick
Crookes: Brian Holmes
More to come? - We think so!
